Barra da Tijuca, Rio's modernest district for business and leisure

Naturally exuberant, Barra da Tijuca boasts the longest beach most extensive stretch of sand in the city, with over 20 km of beaches surrounded by lagoons and Atlantic Forest mountains. In addition to the various options in terms of outdoor entertainment and parks, the district features high tech business centers, the best shopping in town, modern, new hotels, and bars and restaurants for all tastes.

To house the main sports venues of the 2016 Olympic Games, the district has also received investments in transportation infrastructure. In addition to the already operational BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) lines, a new subway line is currently under construction.

Barra is a new destination for those coming to Rio on business or for pleasure.

Barra da Tijuca is one of most highly developed districts in Brazil and has been the focus of major investments in terms of transport and hotels. The district has more than 40 places to stay options; some of these are very close to the event and one is located within the Riocentro complex. The area is also well served by public transport, with links to the BRT, Metro, and several bus lines. If you're coming by car from the international airport or Zona Norte, the best route is Linha Amarela. For those coming from Zona Sul, we recommend you come through Barra da Tijuca.
